2018/2019

Witney Schools Swimming Gala:

On Wednesday 9th January a group of Year 6 boys and girls from The Blake School competed in the Witney Schools Swimming Gala.  There were eleven schools taking part and the standard of competition was high.

The Blake School swimmers performed brilliantly, with each competitor showing tremendous effort in their particular race.

There were some superb performances.  After all the points had been counted, we are very proud to announce that the girls’ team finished 3rd overall and the boys’ team won their event; they will now go on to compete in the West Oxfordshire finals.

A fantastic result and very well done to all those children who competed.

Witney Schools’ Football League Semi-Final:

After successfully making their way through the group stages in a very assured way, The Blake School Football Team qualified for a Semi-Final contest against The Batt School. The game was played in less than perfect conditions and, after a slightly nervous start and a tight first half, the team found their rhythm and displayed some excellent football in both attack and defence to secure a fantastic 4-1 victory.  This sets up a final against Aston and Cote.  All the players worked exceptionally hard and showed great teamwork and support for each other.  We are very proud of them all and wish them the very best of luck for the final, which will be played in the New Year.

Witney Schools’ Football League:

This term we have been competing in the Witney Schools’ Football League.  Players, mainly from Year 6, have played in 5 matches and have managed to maintain an unbeaten record to reach the Semi Final stage.

The team have played some excellent football, only conceding two goals throughout the group stage, and have shown great team spirit in supporting each other.  They have managed to score 24 goals.

Results were as follows:

Blake 5  Ducklington 0

Blake 3  Aston and Cote 1

Blake 9  Queens Emma’s 0

Blake 5  Witney Community Primary 0

Blake 2  Tower Hill 1

The Squad are:

Leo Adderley, Claudia Albert, Connor Hitchman, Calum Hovard, Sam Jackson, Orhan Mustafa, Tom Siret, Keenan Sprague, Tyler Wells and Asher Wright.

We wish them every success in their Semi Final match.

Year 6 Witney Schools Hockey Tournament:

On Wednesday 31st October, a team of Year 6 children from The Blake School competed in the Witney Schools Hockey Tournament.  They performed brilliantly as a team and won their group comfortably.  They then progressed to the  final stages, where they narrowly lost one game and won the other to finish runners up overall.  This means that they will now go on to represent The Blake at the West Oxfordshire Tournament.  Congratulations.

West Oxfordshire District Cross Country Competition:

On Thursday 18th October, a group of Year 4 and Year 6 girls and boys went to Bicester to represent The Blake School in the West Oxfordshire District Cross Country Competition.

We entered teams in four races:  Under 9 Boys, Under 9 Girls, Under 11 Boys and Under 11 Girls.

All the runners did a fantastic job; everyone completed the course and took part in the races, with over 150 participants in each.

We are very proud of all our runners and extremely pleased to report that our Under 9 Boys all finished in the top 22 places to win the event and qualify for the County Final.  A special mention to Rhys Jones, who finished 3rd in his race.  An outstanding achievement.

Year 5 and 6 Hockey:

On Tuesday 16th October, two teams from The Blake School took part in the Witney Schools Hockey Tournament.

The B team finished 2nd in their group.

The C team won their group and competed in the semi-finals.

All the children played really well.  We are very proud of them all.

Year 4 Football:

On Wednesday 10th October, a group of Year 4 children took part in a mixed 5-aside football tournament at Carterton Community College.  The team played 5 matches in total.  They lost 1 match, drew 3 and won 1 to finish 3rd in their group.  There were some outstanding performances and the children worked really hard to support each other on what was a very large pitch!  They showed great determination and teamwork and we are very proud of their efforts.  Well done to all.
