Apple Ceremony at Cogges Farm

27th September 2016

On 27th September, our Year Four classes attended the annual Apple Ceremony at Cogges Farm. Arriving in the orchard, we stood in front of a group of local dignitaries, including those we knew really well like Vicar Simon and Youth Worker Kirsty; there were others we did not know, including the Mayor of Witney and the Chairman of the County Council, who impressed us with their very shiny gold chains of office!

The V.I.P. guests were very complimentary about our singing of two harvest songs and the  poems that our children had written and read to them.  One of the V.I.P.s observed how brilliantly our children had learned all the words off by heart and then sung them with real gusto; another mentioned that she is looking forward to coming into our school to read the other poems that we have written.

Our two Eco-Council members presented the basket of apples.  We were then treated to a piece of delicious apple cake and a glass of apple juice.

We are always so warmly welcomed by Cogges Farm and we thoroughly enjoyed representing our school and taking part in this part of our community event.  What a great way to start our Harvest Season.
