Witney Schools Kwik Cricket League

18th July 2019
Witney Schools Kwik Cricket League:

This has been the summer of Cricket:  England's historic win in the Men's World Cup and the women in action in the Ashes.

At The Blake, we have been enjoying cricket too.  Year Two enjoyed learning cricket skills with a visiting coach and, for the first time, we entered a junior team in the Witney Schools Kwik Cricket League.  We weren't quite sure what to expect, but our squad of experienced and novice cricketers - boys and girls - have done us proud.

In the first round, we played matches against Witney County Primary and Ducklington.  The nerves soon evaporated and we batted, bowled and fielded like old hands winning both games.  This took us through to the final round against The Batt and Aston and Cote, which we hosted here at The Blake on Thursday, 18th July.  We faced stiffer opposition, but calm and accomplished performances from all the children who played produced two fine wins.  So, at our first attempt, we are the 2018-2019 League Champions!

Congratulations to all those children who played in either or both rounds.  A good number of them will be with us next year too, so we are already looking forward to a great competition next summer!
