Witney Schools’ Football League Final

25th January 2019

Witney Schools Football League:

On Friday 25th January, The Blake School Football Team played in the Witney Schools League Final against Aston and Cote School.

The Team from The Blake had qualified for the final and remained unbeaten, however we knew this would be our toughest test.

The Team, despite our best intentions, were hesitant in the first half and struggled to find the form that we had enjoyed previously.  Aston were a strong side and were playing with skill and confidence.  Both teams had chances in the first half, but managed to stand firm, and the score was 0-0 at half time.

The Blake found some rhythm in the second half and used the width of the pitch to good effect.  We were rewarded with a goal, but Aston came back strongly to equalise.

The rest of the game was played out with more chances at both ends and eventually went to extra time.

Five minutes each way were played, and The Blake found their touch and quality creating a number of great chances.  They eventually netted the winning goal with about a minute to go.

Many congratulations to the team who have worked exceptionally hard throughout the competition.  They have shown tremendous team work and we are very proud of them.

Congratulations also to Aston, who played outstanding football and made the final an extremely tough contest.

The Team:

Calum Hovard (captain), Leo Adderley, Keenan Sprague, Tom Siret, Claudia Albert, Tyler Wells, Sam Jackson, Asher Wright, Orhan Mustafa, Connor Hitchman.
