Welcome to Year 3!
The Year 3 staff team are -
Mrs Usher-Wilson, Mrs Castree, Mr Morris, Mrs Channer, Mrs Jordan and Mrs Baker.
During our work on the Ancient Egyptians in DT we have been working in a team to recreate an Egyptian house with all its specific features.
We have worked on accurate folding for the stairs, different ways of affixing different materials (the canopies were very challenging) and how to ensure it tried to reflect the materials it used. We also devised our own ways of labelling the features. Some of us even tried making our own at home with sand and sawdust on the outside for authenticity.
We have been learning about the Rosetta Stone and hieroglyphics. We created our own cartouches writing our names in hieroglyphics.
We have worked really hard on creating our own winter poems this term. They have really helped us consolidate our understanding of words classes e.g. powerful verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns. Mr Morris has displayed them beautifully in our middle area if you wish to take a look (see picture below).
Now we are enjoying reading JM Barrie's Peter Pan in readiness for our big performance next term. Imagine if our shadows escaped from our bodies, just like Peter Pan's - we are planning and writing a creative paragraph based on what adventures they might get up to!
The children in Year 3 have been very busy designing 'Wanted' posters. They have been displayed all around their classrooms and shared areas - there is no doubt who they are looking for!
The children have been producing Maths' posters, demonstrating how they are learning in Maths.
The children in Year 3 have started the year learning about the children’s author, Roald Dahl and reading his book, ‘The Enormous Crocodile’.
The children have been using adjectives, powerful verbs and similes to describe the animal characters in the book.
It is wonderful to see their creative writing on display in their middle area. Can you guess which animal each child is writing about?
